Mum of three young boys. Sharing our family journey to an Autism and ADHD diagnosis.

As a teacher, it is often my job to make the calls to both sets of parents. The one that I hate doing the most is the one to the parents of the child who has hurt someone, I can hear the pain down the phone of the parent’s voice. For the other parents it is a fleeting moment of anger at worst, most are surprisingly understanding – especially if a small amount of background information is shared. But for the parent of the child who has hurt someone there is often a much bigger sense of loss and pain. Sending so much love in the very real knowledge that one day it could well be me getting that call and feeling that pain. Thank you for sharing this post with us at #PostsFromTheHeart

Reasonable people understand, who cares about the rest. But also consider the lady you overheard may have been blowing off steam before she calmed down & dealt with the problem reasonably. Remind yourself that physical pain is transient and if the victim is looked after it can be the least impactful form of bullying in the long run. It’s the verbal/emotional abuse that does the worst damage. A one off physical blow is no more painful in the long term than an accidental pain. I know a lot of kids with Autism & with work & understanding the violence will disappear, just keep gently stopping him & reiterating it is wrong. Good luck, keep strong! From one whose mother got that call too many times.
